Joel was born in Texas, but then moved to the depressing state of New Jersey. It was when he was growing up in such a depressing atmosphere, that he realized he was emo. He has been listening to and singing emo music all of his life, and has moved on to sing emo music with Emocapella. Besides Emocapella, Joel has always sung either in choirs or musical theater productions.
